Dr. Joseph Amaral
Former President & CEO, Rhode Island Hospital
Before taking leadership of Rhode Island Hospital in 2000, Dr. Amaral previously trained as a resident, practiced surgery, and eventually became Chief of Surgery for the hospital.  In the last five years he has overseen a $350 million capital renovation project, information services improvements, and stewarded the hospital from a $30 million loss in 2000 to a 4% profit in 2005.  An innovator in minimally invasive surgical techniques and technologies, he was the co-developer of ultrasonically activated cutting Harmonic Scalpel currently sold worldwide by Johnson & Johnson.  Currently he is a director of Sontra Medical (NASDAQ: SONT) and has served on the advisory boards of Davol, US Surgical, Stryker Endoscopy, Hereous Laser, Axya, and J&J Ethicon Endo-Surgery.  Dr. Amaral received a BA from Providence College and MD from Brown Medical School.

Vincent Coppola
VP Strategy & Business Development, Blue Shield of California
Blue Shield is one of the largest health plans in California, with over 3.2 million members and 4,500 employees.  Mr. Coppola is Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, responsible for identifying and capitalizing on opportunities that meet the needs of Blue Shield and its stakeholders.  Prior to Blue Shield of California, Mr. Coppola led corporate development at Magellan Health Services, where he helped diversify Magellan from a behavioral health care company, into a well positioned and growing diversified specialty healthcare company through key acquisitions in the radiology and pharmacy markets.  He also held corporate development and mergers and acquisitions roles with UnitedHealth Group, CIGNA, and JP Morgan.  Mr. Coppola holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Bryant College.

Daniel LaFever
President, Davol (a division of C.R. Bard)
Mr. LaFever is President of Davol Inc., a division of C.R. Bard, Inc a leading multinational developer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative, life-enhancing medical technologies.  Davol is a $360 million global surgical specialties business which focuses on soft tissue repair products and commands over 60% share of the hernia market.  In the three years that Mr. LaFever has been President, he has been responsible for expanding Davol's product offerings into biologics, combination products, bariatrics, and both permanent and resorbable mechanical fixation devices.  He has been with Bard for twenty-three years in various capacities including VP of Sales for both Davol and the Bard Medical Division, as well as President of Bard Medical.  Mr. LaFever is a graduate of the University of Nebraska, where he hearned a BS in Business Administration.

Jim Lousararian
CEO, Verax Biomedical
Mr. Lousararian is CEO of Verax BioMedical, which has developed technology for the detection of bacterial contamination in cells and tissue.  He was previously founder & CEO of Angiolink, maker of cardiovascular closure devices which was acquired by Medtronic in 2004. Prior to Angiolink he served as COO of medical device manufacturer STD, VP and business unit manager of Thermo ReTec, and Assoc. General Counsel of Thermo Electron. Earlier in his career, Mr. Lousararian was an attorney at Hale and Dorr. Mr. Lousararian received his JD from the University of Chicago and his BA from the University of Massachusetts.

Jim Maritan
VP, Medicare-D and Business Development, CVS Caremark Corporation
CVS Caremark is the #1 provider of prescriptions and related healthcare services in the nation, filling or managing more than 1 billion prescriptions annually through its 6,200 CVS/pharmacy stores and its pharmacy benefit management, mail order and specialty pharmacy division, Caremark Pharmacy Services.  It also operates the leading retail clinic provider, MinuteClinic.  Mr. Maritan focuses on developing new sources of growth as well as evaluating strategic issues for the senior executive team, including CVS' venture investment in and subsequent acquisition of MinuteClinic.  Jim also leads CVS Caremark's Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) businesses - SilverScript and Prescription Pathways (a JV with Universal American Corp.) - which serve over 1 million members.  Prior to CVS he was a senior manager at the Boston Consulting Group and served as VP Strategic Planning for Staples.  Mr. Maritan received his Electrical Engineering degree with highest honors from the Queen's University (Ontario, Canada) and a masters degree in management from Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University, where he was awarded the distinction of Krannert Scholar.

David Neustaedter
Director of Commercial Strategy & Advanced Technologies, Stryker Development, LLC
Stryker Corporation is one of the world's leading medical technology companies, with the most broadly based range of products in orthopaedics and a significant presence in other medical specialties.  Dr. Neustaedter is responsible for licensing and acquisition of promising medical technologies by Stryker's Kendall Square-based Development division, where he also leads commercial strategy and supervises the division's finance function.  Prior to Stryker, David's background as a strategy consultant included engagements with the senior leadership of approximately 20 public and venture-backed biopharmaceutical and medical device clients during positions of increasing responsibility at Fletcher Spaght and Leerink Swann Strategic Advisors.  He also has experience as part of Deutsche Banc Alex Brown's healthcare investment banking group.  David's PhD is in molecular biology, from University of British Columbia, and he completed post-doctoral work in bone development and neurodegenerative disease at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.  He subsequently received an MBA from Yale.

Mikael Ohman
Senior Vice President, Strategy & Business Development, McKesson Technology Solutions
McKesson Corporation, currently ranked 18th on the FORTUNE 500, is a healthcare services and information technology company dedicated to helping its customers deliver high-quality healthcare by reducing costs, streamlining processes, and improving the quality and safety of patient care. Mikael Ohman is senior vice president of Strategy & Business Development for McKesson Technology Solutions (MTS). In this role, he directs strategic growth initiatives and business development activities for McKesson’s technology companies, which include McKesson Provider Technologies, McKesson Health Solutions and RelayHealth. His responsibilities include the evaluation and development of new business opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, strategic affiliations, joint ventures, and business partnerships, as well as evaluation of investment opportunities. Ohman joined McKesson in 2004 after working at Cerner Corporation, where he was responsible for global business operations. Prior to Cerner, he spent six years as a consultant with McKinsey and Company in Stockholm, Sweden and Atlanta. Ohman received a Master of Science in systems, control and industrial engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and a Master of Science in Engineering Physics from Uppsala Universitet in Uppsala, Sweden.

Tom Berger
Operating Partner, Bessemer Venture Partners
Tom has been an operating partner with Bessemer Venture Partners, where he was involved with a number of their portfolio companies and evaluated investment opportunities in the telecommunications market. Most recently, he served as CEO of SmartLink Radio Networks. Berger was a founder of ARDIS (now Motient), the first and largest national two-way wireless data network, and has led several start-ups in addition to ARDIS, including Celcore, Octave and Taqua. He previously spent 17 years managing engineering, marketing and sales organizations within Motorola's Communications Sector.

Ernesto Fernandez-Lang
Director, Grupo Uno
Mr. Fernandez-Lang is deeply involved in both the day-to-day operations of Grupo Uno on a country level and developing the overall strategic direction of the company.  He is responsible for launching Grupo Uno's Internet payment processing business, which currently accounts for 10% of Grupo Uno's net income.  Prior to joining Grupo Uno, Ernesto was part of the finance and business development team at InPurchase (backed by Accel Partners and Sequoia Capital).  He also spent three years at Barclays Capital as a Manager in the Mining and Metals Group in New York and London.  Mr. Fernandez-Lang received a BS from the University of Pennsylvania.

Peter Kiernan
Partner, Cyrus Capital
Peter is a Partner at Cyrus Capital, a hedge fund based in New York.  Previously he worked at Goldman Sachs and was Founder and Co-Head of the Communications Media and Entertainment Group, a group he helped build to $600 million in annual revenues. He also co-led the new Investment Management Services Group which handles individuals worth $200 million or more, and founded, chaired and built Goldman's Innovation, New Product and Marketing Committees. Most recently, he headed Kiernan Ventures where he served as Chairman of numerous early and mid-stage ventures. Peter received a BA from Williams College, with highest honors, and an MBA from the Darden School at University of Virginia, where he was a Shermet Scholar and President of the school.

Scott Menzel
Senior Director Corporate Development, EMC
Scott currently manages the Technology Team for Investments and Acquisitions at EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC), a Forture 500 high-technology company whose principal segments comprise EMC information storage products, EMC Software Group products, EMC information storage and management services, and RSA Security products and services.  While managing his technology strategy team for the past seven years, Scott had hands-on responsibility for 31 acquisitions totaling over $8 billion and 12 investments with over $57 million invested.  Seven of the investments have reached IPO or have been acquired to date.  Earlier in his career, Scott held a variety of roles at Apollo Computer, Honeywell, Data General, and Sequent Computer Systems before joining EMC in 1994.  Scott graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in Computer Science and has since taken strategy and finance courses at Babson College through the Sustaining High Performance program.

John Puckett
CTO, DuPont
Currently Chief Technology Officer at DuPont, Mr. Puckett is responsible for evaluating and introducing new and emerging technologies and providing global guidance on standards, strategy, design and implementation of technology initiatives. He has been recognized and credited for pioneering open systems and named one of the "Premier 100 IT Leaders" by Computerworld. Network World identified him as one of the top visionaries in "information technology for enterprise networking". John serves on a wide variety of boards in the public and private sector.

Jeremy Segal
Senior Director Business Development, Akamai
Jeremy is currently Senior Director of Business Development at Akamai Technologies, Inc., the leading global service provider for accelerating content and applications online.  He joined Akamai in 2000, and during his tenure has been responsible for many aspects of corporate and business development including joint ventures, strategic partnership, technology licensing, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning and international market expansion.  Prior to joining Akamai, he worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in their mergers and acquisitions and corporate value consulting practices.  Jeremy holds a Bachelor's degree in Government and Economics from Bowdoin College and an MBA from Cornell University's Johnson School.

Bill Wray
EVP & CIO, Citizens Financial
Bill manages Citizens Services Group, the enterprise technology and operations arm of Citizens Bank, which includes some 3,500 employees. He joined Citizens Bank in 1993 and became CIO in 2000. Prior to his banking assignments, Bill served as an Army officer and worked in commercial real estate investment. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and received a master's degree in engineering from Stanford University.
